La Blindarte contemporanea ospita dal 25 ottobre all'11 gennaio 2008 la seconda mostra personale di Davide Cantoni in galleria.
Davide Cantoni presenterà nuovi “disegni bruciati” di grandi dimensioni e le pitture realizzate con vernice ad interferenza.
Tratti dalle immagini pubblicate sul quotidiano New York Times, i disegni di Cantoni reinterpretano scene di vita reale, simboli di eventi che segnano il nostro tempo, pubblicati, visti da un largo pubblico per una giornata e poi destinati all'oblio.
La famosa tecnica utilizzata dall'artista è quella della bruciatura del foglio con una lente di ingrandimento che riflette la luce solare fino ad infiammare la carta, lasciando così la delicata ed immodificabile traccia dell'intervento naturale.
I nuovi lavori di Cantoni invitano ad una profonda riflessione sul nostro tempo in cui la velocità, la fluidità delle notizie e dell’informazione divorano la possibilità di soffermarsi sulle immagini e sugli eventi che scorrono con la stessa rapidità con cui sono prodotte. Forse l'unico antidoto a questo frastornante modo di comunicare è una pittura complessa e minuziosa come quella di Cantoni. Capire il lavoro di Cantoni significa infatti osservare il dettaglio, scorgere lentamente i volti e gli sguardi che emergono dalle tele e individuare il giusto punto di vista. Tutto il lavoro di Cantoni ci costringe a fare uno sforzo conscio per farsi vedere.

Oltre ai disegni bruciati ed alle pitture realizzate con gli acrilici ad interferenza, verrà presentato il video "Sol" (:30), il primo dell'artista, dove una rotazione del sole è ottenuta fotogramma per fotogramma attraverso l'animazione di disegni bruciati che lo ritraggono.
Note biografiche
Nato a Milano nel 1965, dopo aver studiato al Royal College of Art a Londra si è trasferito a New York dove attualmente vive e lavora.
Ha esposto in numerosi spazi museali e gallerie private internazionali ad esempio in in Germania (Dina4Projekte Munich, Kunstverein and Optisches Museum, Jena), negli Usa (Daneyal Mahmood Gallery, Esso gallery, Elvehjem Museum of Art,), in Inghilterra, in Francia (Musée d'art contemporain Saint Etienne), in Svizzera (Kunstmuseum, Thun) ed in Italia (Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Carbone.to, Grossetti, Blindarte Contemporanea, Pan, MACI Museo d'arte contemporanea di Isernia ). E' in corso la sua partecipazione alla mostra Micronarratives - Oktober Salon 48 - a Belgrado a cura di Lorand Hegyi.
Opere di Davide Cantoni sono presenti in numerose collezioni, tra queste: MOMA, Osram Collection, Kasen Summer Collection, MACI (Museo Arte Contemporanea Isernia), Blindarte.
Blindarte Contemporanea is pleased to announce Davide Cantoni's second solo show at the gallery. Davide Cantoni will present new, large burned drawings, as well as his trademark interference paintings.
Taken from the images published in the New York Times, Cantoni's work reinterprets images of real life, symbols of events that leave their mark on our time, seen for a day and then destined for oblivion.
The technique used by the artist is the burning of paper with a magnifying glass that reflects the sunlight until the paper catches fire, leaving the delicate traces of the natural intervention, and paintings that only reveal themselves in reflection.
Cantoni's work invites us to reflect on ouor time, in which the speed that news and information travel around the world , is such that we have no chance to pause and interpet the images or the events that they present, all of which are replaced by new ones almost as soon as they happen. Maybe the only antidote to this never-ending barrage of "noise" is a complex and intentionally difficult work like Cantoni's. Cantoni's work requires finding the right viewpoint, observing details, which slowly allow the images to emerge.

Besides the burned drawings and the interference acrylics on canvas, Cantoni will be presenting the video "Sol" (:30) ; the first by the artist, taking a film of the sun's rotation dividing it into frames, drawing and then burning each one and then reassembling them into a film.

Currently, Cantoni is participating in Micronarratives - Oktober Salon 48 - in Belgrade, curated by Lorand Hegyi.
